I happen to think that Sam's bridesmaid dress is adorable! Why does everyone hate it? There's nothing wrong with it. It's very cute.

I do like the original costume, however. To me, the hat and fabric remind me of cheap bridesmaid dresses from the 1970s and early 1980s - especially the hat.Quote:

When I first saw the dress I thought it looked tacky but little DD really wanted so I bought it. When we got it I was surprised at the nice fabric and it didn't look so bad. I agree that it makes the dolls look chubbier. Joy, your Sam is so pretty in that dress! Little DD says her Sam NEEDS a dress like that, too!
Glad to hear that the dress fabric looks better at home. I only saw the dress in the store, and as everyone knows, the American Girl Place Store can be overwhelming.
I don't think the dress is ugly, but I would say tacky. The style would have been fine if they had used lace that was of a better quality. The lace is so cheap looking that the whole dress appears to be cheap. Overall I would give this dress a C-; we have it because DD wanted to have a complete Samantha collection.
Mine is from an Ebay store, and is very good quality. It's in my avatar. If anyone wants a link to this seller, who also makes outfits for the other girls for a less than what the originals are from AG, then you can PM me.
An advantage that the Bridesmaid dress has in real life is that the lace work on it is so much nicer than what is on the doll version, also I think the fabric is silk or taffeta instead of some 80's satin stuff.
The bridesmaid doll version has always reminded me of a purple version of the pink bridesmaid dresses worn in Steel Magnolias.
I loved that movie, but think I would have died rather than wear that pink dress! It was just too-too!
